The Moreland family moved from New Zealand to Australia in 1980, ready to make a new start. Australia offered far greater business opportunities for Colin Moreland, who’d owned a logging, Earthmoving and Transport business in New Zealand at the time. Leaving New Zealand was a bold move, one that would significantly change the lives of Colin and Raylee Moreland and their three sons, Kelvin, David and Craig.

In February 1983 the devastating Ash Wednesday fires in Victoria and South Australia were the catalyst for the Moreland’s to begin building a major logging contracting business. We’d been involved in a salvage timber harvesting job in NSW (in the Tea Gardens region, north of Newcastle) when the Ash Wednesday fires broke out. The call eventually went out for contractors for salvage harvesting in South Australia following Ash Wednesday and we moved to Mt Gambier to take on the work. The Moreland’s took a skidder, 4 hand fallers and one loader with them. A modest start to what would become one of the largest logging contracting businesses in the ‘Green Triangle’ region (south-east South Australia and south-west Victoria).

Over 40 plus year of business, Moreland Holdings have always thrived to make sure they have the most modern and technologically advanced equipment is available. The company has been a part of introducing on-board scales to all fleet logging trucks as well as integrated GPS trackers to all vehicles to monitor fatigue and locations of our staff in real time. Moreland Holdings were also the first company to have single grip tree harvesters with integrated measuring systems in the Green Triangle Region. We also have a long-standing relationship with waratah to make sure our machines are equipped with the best forestry attachments.
